Research Description:
Dr. Harvey is responsible for important aspects of research related to analysis and presentation of zooplankton obtained during the three DFO monitoring programs: 1) Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program, since 1990 (AZMP); 2) annual assessment of the abundance and distribution of macrozooplankton (euphausiids [krill], amphipods, chaetognaths, jellyfish) in the estuary and north-western GSL, since 1994 (BIONESS DFO); 3) Hudson Bay system, 2003-2006 (MERICA). The results obtained in various monitoring programs are also used for research in ecology of zooplankton, which represents an important food source for fish and larger organisms (marine mammals). This study examines the spatio-temporal abundance and distribution in these communities in relation to physical conditions, which helps to better understand the influence of climate variability on zooplankton communities.
