Ocean Profiles

ISDM acquires, processes, quality controls, archives and distributes physical, chemical and biological profiles of oceanographic data from several National and International programmes.

Lower resolution data are available in real-time whereas higher resolution data are acquired in delayed-mode.

Data and Products

  • BioCHEM
    Integrated Science Data Management (ISDM)
A repository for biological and chemical marine environmental sample measurements. Scientific Research Missions originating from the various DFO Research Institutions are the primary sources of information in the holdings. With an account it is possible to download biological, chemical and physical oceanographic profiles collected by DFO from this national application.
  • Hydrographic Climate Database (Climate)
    Bedford Institute of Oceanography
The Ocean Science Hydrographic Climate Database (Climate) is a comprehensive, open access collection of temperature and salinity data for the Northwest Atlantic and Eastern Arctic.
  • Water Profile Data Inventory
    Institute of Ocean Sciences
The inventory of water profiles collected by IOS is searchable online. Coverage is mainly the Pacific Ocean.
  • Oceanographic Data Management System
    Maurice Lamontagne Institute
Ocean profile data collected by MLI can be accessed here. The coverage consists mostly (but is not restricted to) of the St. Lawrence Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence.
  • Real-time Ocean Profile Data
    Integrated Science Data Management (ISDM)
ISDM acquires, processes, quality controls and archives physical oceanographic data reporting in real-time over the Global Telecommunication System (GTS). The data are available upon request and covers the world oceans.

Procedures and agreements through which ISDM carries this work can be found on the page describing the GTSPP project.
  • Delayed-Mode Ocean profile Data
    Integrated Science Data Management (ISDM)
ISDM archives delayed-mode physical and chemical oceanographic data from DFO Science data centers and data of Canadian interest from international data centers. The data come from bottle, CTD, XBTs, etc., and can be obtained by filling this request form.
  • Cruise Catalogue
    Integrated Science Data Management (ISDM)
This is a sample of the catalogue of cruises from which ISDM holds data. Other years can be obtained by filling out this request form.
  • Line P Oceanographic Data
    Institute of Ocean Sciences
IOS produces and distributes data and products from physical and chemical oceanographic profile sampled along Line-P, a line extending from the mouth of the Juan de Fuca Strait, south of Vancouver Island, to Ocean Station Papa at 50°N 145°W, in the Pacific Ocean.
