Deep Drifter Data

The data available from this page were collected by the Institut für Meereskunde, at the University of Kiel. The data are mostly from the Atlantic Ocean, but some extend into the Arctic Ocean and also into the Indian Ocean in later years. The earliest records are from 1980 and the most recent are from 1996. The data are interpolated to positions every 3 hours. These are drifters with deep drogues. Some of the records have sea surface temperatures and computed velocities. More information about these data can be found in Krauss, W., J Geophysical Research (C1) p1309-1319, 1996.

The files are in ascii and have been compressed with the zip utility. The format description is provided at the top of each file. Thumbnail images are provided, which expand to a larger size when clicked on.
